Room: Deluxe Room
Address: 1341 Dandenong Road, Chadstone VIC 3148
Best for: The ideal Melbourne accommodation choice for shopaholic and wellness travellers
The signature factor
Waking up to don my plush robe, savouring a cup of T2 sencha green tea and opening the blinds to sweeping views of Melbourne’s Fashion Capital.
The concept
Hotel Chadstone opened its doors in November 2019. The $130-million project became the 11th MGallery Hotel in Australia, in good company with Hotel Lindrum Melbourne, Harbour Rocks Hotel in Sydney and others in Paris, Amsterdam, Bangkok and Vietnam.
Hotel Chadstone Melbourne aims to be a world-class destination for the 24 million people visiting Chadstone each year and is owned by the Gandel Group and Vicinity Centres. It’s perfect for a plush stay just minutes away from all the retail therapy your heart could desire.
The room
When entering the 28-square-metre Deluxe Room my eyes are magnetically drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows as they gracefully curve along the length of the wall offering breathtaking city views. I’m greeted with a hand-written welcome letter from the Hotel Chadstone team beside a delicately arranged plate of sweets almost too pretty to eat.
The soft pink velvet bed head and brass trimmings lighting the King Bed feel indulgently sophisticated and are further enhanced through motorised shut blinds and two brightness settings for the lighting. The standalone bathroom is brilliantly lit, ideal for makeup application ensuring the day starts on the right foot, plus has a separate section for both the toilet and the shower which is equipped with an overhead and a handheld option.
On my plate
The hotel boasts two on-site restaurants, both focusing on Victorian produce and a farm-to-plate ethos.
For an indulgent feast for the body and eyes, head to level 12 for the rooftop bar. Indulge in a glass of award-winning champagne before transitioning to Altus for artisan dishes complemented by Melbourne’s skyline.
On the ground floor, Pastore by renowned celebrity chef Scott Pickett delivers modern Italian cuisine using the freshest local produce.
I wish I could take home...
The hotel’s Digital Detox Service is a great aid for switching off. The staff will store your devices – phones, tablets, laptops, etc – for as long as you would like to stay disconnected.
Spa life
Located on the hotel’s mezzanine level, Holism Day Spa is ideal if you are after more traditional treatments. Think massages, wraps and facials.
Staying in
Guests can further elevate the view from their rooms at the rooftop pool or bar. For those wishing to maintain their health and wellness routines, there is a wellness centre within the hotel with a holistic day spa and a gym. Other hotel offerings include 24-hour concierge, 24-hour room service, currency exchange, baggage storage, secure parking and a range of cleaning services.
Stepping out
A two-minute walk will take you to Australia’s largest shopping centre, home to more than 500 retail and food outlets, while a 30-minute Uber will have you at the airport. Central Melbourne is a 30-minute car ride away, and the boutique cafes and restaurants of St Kilda are just 15.
For those wishing to venture beyond the hotel for cuisine, an array of restaurants are a few hundred metres away including riverside bar Mr Pilgrim and two-Michelin-Star-Chef Chen Kentaro’s Yu Kitchen.
Celebrity sightings
Australian model and television presenter Rebecca Judd has stayed at Hotel Chadstone, while celebrity chef Scott Pickett runs the ground floor restaurant, Pastore.
Final verdict
Hotel Chadstone Melbourne personifies the region in which it ever-so-elegantly stands. The most stylish attention has been placed on every detail of the hotel and guests are made to feel at home but a home that not many get to experience. If you come to Melbourne for retail therapy, you have come to the right place.
